DEFENSIVE DIVAS  Women’s Self Defense

The Shooter’s Depot self-defense class curriculum consists of a five step processes that evolves from a senses of self awareness and self control. This five step process is not a cut and dry martial arts class, but something much different. In this process the ideas of techniques give way to the understanding of principles.

Studies have shown that techniques are easily forgotten under stress, but basic principles can be applied to any situation where dynamics change. When techniques are taught the student is tasked with trying to determine what to do for the given situation. As the mind sorts thru the vast number of technique to use, the clock is ticking and seconds could determine survivability. When the key basic principles are applied, the student reacts to the given situation. This reaction is often well before the problem has time to develop, which limits the need for physical confrontations. In each of the five steps, students learn how to apply principles of AWARNESS, SELF CONTROL and CONFIDENCE. This helps the student to develop VERBAL, POSITIONAL and PHYSICAL components that will drastically reduce the potential of becoming a victim.

Length of course: Approx 2 hours once a week for 5 weeks

.22 TACTICAL CARBINE CLASS

Want to hone your defensive rifle skills without the expense and noisy muzzle blast? We’ve got the class for you.

Tactical .22 carbine will cover basic defensive rifle techniques and tactics by using the lower cost .22 long rifle round in either rifles chambered in .22 caliber such as the m&p .22 , colt/walther .22 m4 clone , or by using a .22 conversion kit to fire .22 caliber rounds in m4 type rifles.

This lets the student fire hundreds of rounds of .22 at a far lower cost than .223 caliber rounds. Also the noise of multiple .223 rifles firing on an enclosed range can be at least very distracting. This is not an issue using the .22 caliber round. The use of the .22 caliber round allows rifle training on ranges where .223 usage is not allowed or possible.

Topics covered will include:

Why a rifle? When to employ the rifle examples of actual rifle employment to win an encounter, weapon manipulation, marksmanship fundamentals, malfunction clearance, firing from cover or concealment, transitioning to handgun, positional firing, multiple target engagement, turns, failure to stop drills, threat assessment, low light/ no light if course time allows

No .223 / 5.556 ammunition may be used! Equipment needed: m4 or ar-15 type rifle in .22 caliber or ar /m4 with .22 caliber conversion unit. Ruger 10-22 rifles are acceptable.

400 rounds of .22 caliber long rifle ammunition

It is recommended that you test fire your ammunition and your magazines prior to the class to insure it/ they reliably function in your weapon.

Minimum of three magazines preferably of twenty plus round capacity. Eye and hearing protection magazine pouch for rifle magazines, semiautomatic pistol or revolver with 100 rounds, waist area holster for handgun (belt/paddle or inside the waistband) no fanny packs or shoulder holsters, knee pads, elbow pads not required but recommended, a “dump pouch” to hold extra magazines is recommended but not required
